I am a San Diego native. As a family law attorney, I am available to assist anyone in the community. I focus my practice on assisting same-sex couples because, as a bisexual man raised in a Catholic household, I know first-hand the judgment and rejection that come from those who don’t understand what it means to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. I spent years in the closet thinking coming out would be the last thing I’d do until, with the guidance of some amazing friends, I found the courage to reveal who I truly am.
Just like I needed allies to find the courage to challenge expectations of what I would become, navigating the family court system can be terrifying. You need someone who will help guide you through the process. I help clients of all orientations without judgment. I also recognize that not every LGBT client comes from a same-sex relationship, as marriages will sometimes break down because one spouse comes out.
I keep up to date on the fight for marriage equality so that I can answer your questions regarding when we will see change on a national level. Though same-sex couples can marry in California, we still have a long way to go. I write a column in Gay San Diego called Legally LGBT in which I discuss broad issues that affect the LGBT community. I am happy to answer questions via e-mail if you want to know more about a new law you may have heard about. My answer may turn into a blog post so that I can reach others with the same question.
I went to Mira Mesa High School, where I was bullied for my sexuality. I attended California State University San Marcos where I studied Criminology to to gain an understanding of the justice system. I studied law at California Western School of Law where the values of hard work and dedication that were instilled in me growing up served me well during my studies.
I am a craft beer enthusiast, music fan, and avid runner and hiker. I enjoy spending time with my husband exploring interesting events in San Diego. I am a big movie buff and enjoy going to the theater quite often. I write movie reviews and post them on marvelmvs.wordpress.com. I write a blog about the craft beer scene in San Diego called San Diego Hop Addict because the unique flavors of hops are central to my enjoyment of a good beer.
