In part of an ongoing effort to simplify the process in family courts to make things easier for self-represented litigants, California has adopted some new mandatory forms and made some changes to existing forms. Family Law is primarily handled through the use of these mandatory judicial council forms in order to streamline the process.
Most significant are the new information forms, FL-107-INFO, that provides information on the basic steps involved in a divorce, FL-182, that provides a checklist for anyone preparing to file a judgment with the court, and FL-300-INFO, that provides information for anyone requesting an order with the new FL-300 request for order form.
These information forms will help you understand the basics of the divorce process. FL-170-INFO links to the California Courts Self-help Guide, a useful tool that explains many of the steps in the process. Understanding these basics before consulting with an attorney will help you be a better-informed consumer of legal services.
The information sheet for the FL-300 Request for Order explains when additional attachments must be filed along with the basic form. For example, when temporary orders are being sought, you must attach the FL-305, Temporary Emergency Court Orders.
The full list of updated and new forms as of July 1, 2012 is below. If you type the name into google, the first result should be a fillable PDF form. For example, if you want to read FL-107-INFO, simply type FL-107-INFO into google and you should find the form.
